Sexual assault scandals made me homeless – Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey: ‘I Have No Home’ After Financial Collapse

Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey has revealed that he is currently homeless due to his severe financial problems following his sexual assault scandals. Spacey made this candid admission during a wide-ranging interview with The Telegraph, where he discussed his bleak financial state.

Spacey explained that he had lived in Baltimore, Maryland, for the past 12 years. However, he recently had to move out of that house. He stated, “I literally have no home,” noting that the lack of incoming money is due to the “astronomical” costs associated with his scandals. In 2024, Spacey tearfully told Piers Morgan that his Baltimore home was heading to the auction block because he was millions of dollars in debt.

Currently, Spacey is living in hotels and Airbnbs. He is getting through life “in weird ways”, explaining that he is “going where the work is”. He feels he is “back to where I first started,” when he simply followed job opportunities. He has placed all of his personal belongings in storage and hopes to settle down again if his financial standing improves.

Spacey’s professional troubles began in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp accused him of sexual assault while Spacey was starring in the popular Netflix series House of Cards. Spacey was subsequently removed from the show. Although Rapp sued him, Spacey was eventually found not liable by a jury in the civil trial.

Later, he faced criminal charges in London related to sexually assaulting multiple men. He was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing at that criminal trial. Despite these clearances, Spacey acknowledges that the stigma from seven years of negative press regarding the allegations still affects him today.

Spacey did mention one piece of positive news amidst his financial turmoil: he is currently not bankrupt.

To clarify the complex nature of the situation: Spacey’s legal outcomes found him not liable in the civil case and cleared of criminal wrongdoing. However, the astronomical financial costs and professional stigma incurred during the seven years of fighting these allegations acted like a powerful financial black hole, ultimately causing him to lose his physical home, even though he was not found legally responsible for the accusations.
