Australia has cancelled rapper Kanye West’s visa after he released a song titled “Heil Hitler”, which has sparked outrage worldwide for its Nazi references and offensive content.
Kanye, who now goes by Ye, had been a frequent visitor to Australia due to his marriage to Melbourne-born architect Bianca Censori. However, Immigration Minister Tony Burke confirmed that his visa was revoked following the release of the song on May 8, 2025.
Minister Burke explained that the decision was made to protect the country from hateful and extremist content.
“We have enough problems already without deliberately importing bigotry,” he said.
Although Ye previously held a visa, officials reassessed his case after the song’s release. The track was widely condemned for glorifying Adolf Hitler and including a sample from one of Hitler’s 1935 speeches.
“Heil Hitler” featured chants referencing Nazis and has since been removed or blocked on major platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube after public backlash.
The immigration minister did not confirm whether the ban is permanent, but said that any future visa application would be judged under current laws and public interest tests.
For now, Ye will not be able to visit Australia, marking a significant fallout from the controversial release.
