Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his ex-girlfriend, Sangeeta Bijlani, recently gained attention after the Dabaang actor was spotted attending Bijlani’s 65th Birthday party. Actor Arjun Bijlani uploaded a snap on Instagram showing himself, his wife Neha Swami, Sangeeta, and Salman together. This get-together revived memories of their intense past relationship.
Salman Khan was about to marry in May 1994. Wedding cards were printed, and there was significant excitement about the event within Bollywood circles. But it was canceled and never happened .
The Near-Marriage and Abrupt Cancellation
Sangeeta Bijlani is considered to be Salman Khan’s first girlfriend. They began dating in 1986 and maintained their relationship for nearly eight years. Their relationship became very serious, reaching a point where they planned to marry in May 1994. Wedding cards were printed, and there was significant excitement about the event within Bollywood circles.
However, the wedding was abruptly called off just weeks before the planned date. This occurred because Salman Khan was caught cheating on Bijlani with another girl.
The Cheating Confession
Salman Khan himself spoke publicly about the incident during an interview on Koffee With Karan Season 4. He confirmed that he wanted to get married at the time, but the plan failed. He specifically named Sangeeta and admitted that she “caught him red-handed,” leading to the cancellation of the wedding. Salman confessed to being caught, stating, “She caught me. I get caught. I’m an idiot,”.
The “other girl” involved is rumored to be Salman’s second romantic partner, Somi Ali. Somi Ali also once confirmed the event, stating that the wedding cards were printed, but Sangeeta caught Salman in her (Somi’s) flat red-handed.
Life After the Breakup
The planned wedding with Sangeeta Bijlani was the only time Salman Khan came close to getting married. Although he later entered into relationships with other women, none of them resulted in marriage. Salman admitted on the Koffee with Karan show that while people might view him as a good boyfriend, it is difficult for other women to tolerate him for the rest of their lives. Salman Khan never married and remains single today.
Sangeeta Bijlani moved on and later started dating former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin. Azharuddin, who was married to Naureen and had two sons, divorced his first wife before marrying Sangeeta. Sangeeta and Mohammad Azharuddin tied the knot in 1996. Their marriage lasted almost 14 years before they separated in 2010. Sangeeta has not married since her separation from Azharuddin and is currently single.
A Friendship That Endured
Despite the dramatic end to their romantic relationship, Salman Khan and Sangeeta Bijlani successfully buried their past. They continue to maintain mutual respect to this day. Sangeeta Bijlani even supported Salman during his 2001 hit-and-run case. The two are frequently spotted speaking to each other at various public events and shows.
Regarding his professional life, the Sikandar actor is preparing for his next film, Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. The movie’s release date has not been announced, but it is expected to be released around EID next year.
